Art Gallery 158 is part of a creative and social hub housed in a restored building in the historical center of Sofia. This multifaceted complex combines the gallery with a boutique hotel, a bar featuring a live music stage, a cozy bistro, and an art shop. Its ambition is to become a modern home for creativity – one that preserves the city’s authentic character while bringing together tradition and contemporary art under one roof.
The gallery offers its 85 sq. m space free of charge for exhibitions and performances, supporting both emerging and established artists across various genres. It is a long-standing partner of New Bulgarian University, providing a stage for students and faculty members. In 2023 and 2024, it hosted the Festival of Contemporary Bulgarian Ceramics, organized by the Union of Bulgarian Artists.
As part of the latest edition of the KvARTal Festival, Art Gallery 158 showcased the interactive installation “Old Sofia” by Dr. Marta Dimitrova, a ceramic artist and the creative director of the gallery, as well as the visionary behind many of its projects. Other notable events include the performance “Expansionism” by world-renowned abstractionist Albino Pitti; a concert by musicians from the Thessaloniki Conservatory “Sihrono odio”, celebrating its 40th anniversary; exhibitions such as “Baila Conmigo” by Bolivian artist Sidney Calderon and “Year of the Rabbit” by Assistant. Prof. Dr. Evelina Gebreva, “Ceramics – A Way of Life” in memory of Prof. Ivana Eneva, “Tobacco in the Mouth” by Rosen Markovski, and the art revue “GOD SAVE THE ART” by eccentric designer and conceptual artist Mira Bachvarova
