The Gallery “Club of the Photo Reporter”, situated in the architecturally and culturally significant Largo area (Serdika underpass) in Sofia, is managed by the Association “Club of Photo Reporters and Photographers in Bulgaria” — a professional organization with a longstanding contribution to the development of visual culture in the country. Founded in 1999, the association was officially recognized as a cultural organization in 2024.
The gallery operates as an established platform for contemporary art, with a distinct focus on photography and photojournalism. Its curatorial approach bridges documentary and artistic practices, fostering dialogue between diverse visual languages, generations of artists, and cultural contexts.
With over 2000 events realized, the gallery plays a substantial role in Sofia’s cultural landscape. Its program includes exhibitions, discussions, competitions, plein air formats, biennials, and socially engaged initiatives. Notable projects include “30 Years in 100 Frames”, “100 Years since the Birth of Nikola Stoichkov”, the documentary exhibition “Lost in Transition”, and the national competition for young artists “Shavarsh Artin”. The gallery is also an active participant in established cultural platforms such as the “Month of Photography”.
In the past year, the gallery has maintained an intensive exhibition program, presenting 22 photography exhibitions, including “MirarDor” by Prof. Petar Boyadzhiev and “Visualia”, featuring Danish photojournalists Klaus Bo and Jan Grarup. Alongside these, it has hosted exhibitions in the field of fine arts, such as “Sense of Space” (watercolor, Magdalena Yotova), “Nude Body” (painting, Lyudmil Aleksandrov), and “Reflections” (painting, Antonia Aleksandrova).
Through its consistent and socially engaged activity, the Gallery “Club of the Photo Reporter” affirms its role as an active mediator between artists and audiences, and as a significant contributor to the development of contemporary visual culture in Bulgaria.
